Zusammenfassung: | Philosophers of history have incorrectly posited that metaphors used to interpret historical data lead to historic accounts that cannot be taken as true because metaphors are inherently fictional. Three writers, Hayden White, F.R. Ankersmit and H. Kellner are the major proponents of this view. The assumption that metaphors cannot be true is false. Once it is realized that metaphors can be based in reality, the notion that metaphorical history is unreliable can be proven wrong. Metaphors can in fact be a useful means to clearly present historical fact. |
