Zusammenfassung:A discourse analysis of the New York Times' coverage of the Russian Parliament crisis of 1993 and the failed Soviet coup of 1991 shows that the construction of the post- Cold War Russia has not changed much from that of the Soviet Union during the Cold-War era. Through linguistic choices, these events were presented as rivalry between hard-core communists and reformers, and between state-controlled and free market economy.
