Zusammenfassung:Each signed essay runs from four to seven pages in length, providing a biographical history, a discussion of the individual's relationship to feminism, accomplishments and contributions to the modern feminist movement, and a selective list of works by and about her. There is a selective bibliography of books about feminism, and an index that allows searching for any mention of Redstockings, for example, within the biographical essays. There are no photographs or other illustrations. The interesting essays offer an enjoyable read outside of their reference value. As a reference tool, the book is limited by its selective nature, and most of the women included have biographical information available in other resources. However, as a collection that focuses on the feminist aspect of each woman's life and brings together such a diverse set of lives, this book gives an excellent picture of second-wave feminism.
