Zusammenfassung:The diagnosis was delayed in 5 of the 21 cases of active tuberculosis presenting in the past 10 years at a hospital in East Scotland serving a population of 125 000. The main cause of this delay was failure to consider the diagnosis seriously in patients who presented with unusual symptoms. The diagnosis of tuberculosis should be considered in patients with an abnormal chest X-ray or with a history of tuberculosis.
