Zusammenfassung: | Despite significant Jewish emigration at the turn of the 1990s Ukraine remains the home of one of the largest Jewish communities in the world. Khanin evaluates three issues which affect the present status of the Jewish community in Ukraine: the Ukrainian population's attitude toward the local movement; the interests and role of Ukrainian establishment, including it post-nomenklatura and national- liberal factions in the initiation and development of official Jewish policy; and the reasons for and consequences of the cautious and very limited presence of Ukrainian Jewish organizations in national politics. |
