Zusammenfassung: | A benchmarking study was conducted to assess current practices and lead times of the sand, die, and investment casting industries. The study consisted of the development of questionnaires, selection of participants, analysis and reporting of survey results, and plant visits for study validation. The questionnaire was developed from a benchmarking matrix that identified issues that affect lead time and cost in the casting flow process. Results are presented in the categories of business and management, tooling, production, and quality for the three processes. Salient points that indicated differences and trends between the primary metal groups within each process are also presented. A good assessment of current practices in the metalcasting industry is provided. |
