Zusammenfassung: | To examine practices related to management training and education, 1,000 randomly selected US companies with at least 1,000 employees were surveyed. A semistructured questionnaire was completed by one person in each organization responsible for, or very familiar with, management training and education. Results from 611 questionnaires showed that less than 1/3 of the responding companies have procedures for determining the training and education requirements of their managers. However, many approaches are used for management training and development, for instance, formal training/education programs, task force participation, mentoring, job rotation, and career planning. Content areas cited as needing more attention are strategic planning, managing people, marketing, ethics, finance, and computers. Most respondents expected an increase in management training and education in the next 5 years, primarily because of the need to update managers on changing concepts and skills and of increased company emphasis on training needs. |
