Pocket movies: Souvenir cinema programmers and the Danish silent cinema

Sandberg does not try to deny the spectator autonomy made possible by the multiple performance codes of silent film. Instead, his aim is to show that other impulses could also assert themselves in the gap between the pre-recordered visual medium and its variable accompaniments, especially when those other codes took printed form.
