In the bilateral Biosphere Reserve Krkonose/Karkonosze in 2002 dead standing trees and decaying wood were recorded in the framework of preparatory works for management plans in both national parks KPN and KRNAP. On the Polish side of the Giant Mts. standing dead trees and lying dead wood were registered separately while in the Czech part of the biosphere reserve only overall data were determined, i.e. all dead wood in the forest stand.
