Zusammenfassung: | Mexico's Sierra Madre Occidental is one of those last wild places, a vast, remote mountain range populated by bear, deer, jaguar, and, yes, the remnants of wild native trout. Relict populations of these and other Mexican wild trout are seriously threatened by environmental degradation (logging, forest fires, global warming, and drought) and genetic contamination from stocking and commercial fish farms. Johnson's writings are illustrated by David Burckhalter's stunningly beautiful photographs of snow-covered cerros, lush springtime river valleys, pristine water falls, and ranching hamlets as well as the people of the sierra. |
