Zusammenfassung:Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) have emerged as the most commonly placed catheter for pediatric patients requiring infusion therapy in the hospital and homecare environment (Dubois et al. 2007; Gorski & Czaplewski, 2004). Criteria for pediatric PICC insertion include patients receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN), antibiotics, maintenance therapies, blood products, chemotherapy, and the need for frequent blood sampling (Burns, 2005; Schwengel et al. 2004).
