Zusammenfassung: | Michael Polanyi was born in Hungary in 1891. He served as a medical doctor in World War I, and began a second career as a chemist following the war. Of Jewish descent, he fled Berlin in the early 1930s, and was able to obtain a teaching post in chemistry at the University of Manchester. After a number of years he exchanged his chair in chemistry for one in social studies, but he is best known for his writings in philosophy. Polanyi died in 1976. His last book, Meaning, was coauthored by Harry Prosch. Prosch had known Polanyi since 1969. |
