This book makes the argument that direct investment abroad stabilizes the earnings of an enterprise, and thus provides investors with a means of reducing the risk in their portfolios, by reducing the sensitivity of the portfolios to conditions in a single economy. A series of short empirical studies is presented in support of this view. The book is difficult to follow and the empirical work could be considerably improved.
