Zusammenfassung: | A number of language acquisition issues are highlighted by 'The Count of Monte Cristo,' by Alexandre Dumas. This novel's main character, Edmund Dantes, can speak several languages fluently, and is therefore not tied to a particular country. It is clear that the type of exposure a language learner has will play a key role in what is learned and how long learning will take. It will inevitably take a long time to learn a second language, as was the case with Dantes. A learner's cognitive style has an impact on the learning process, as does a natural aptitude for learning languages. |
