The question of regional bands and substribes among the pre-conquest Pai(Hualapai and Havasupai) indians of northwestern Arizona

Before 1860, scattered bands of Yuman-speaking Indians occupied a large area in what has now become northwest and north-central Arizona. Braatz believes Pai regional band and subtribe names represent residents of geographical regions, not social and political structures.
