Zusammenfassung:L'espace social de Montreal draws from Statistics Canada's 1951 to 1991 federal census data for Montreal to create a series of 400 black and white maps, prefaced with one-page analytical texts. From a computerized base map of federal census divisions and municipal boundaries (323-329), Drouilly produces five maps for each of sixty-seven census variables. These variables are organized into seven divisions: residential, demographic, ethnic, linguistic, the workforce, socio-professional categories, and wealth and poverty. The stated objective is to reveal the structural components of Montreal's social space, with temporal, geographic and sociological factors figuring into the analysis. Montreal's physical limits are defined as the "Communaute urbaine de Montreal", the Montreal region which includes lie Jesus and the South Shore.
