Reservoir Surfaces as Sources of Greenhouse Gases to the Atmosphere: A Global Estimate
Following flooding of landscapes to create any kind of reservoir, terrestrial plants die and no longer assimilate carbon dioxide by photosynthesis, resulting in the loss of a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. Zusammenfassung: | Following flooding of landscapes to create any kind of reservoir, terrestrial plants die and no longer assimilate carbon dioxide by photosynthesis, resulting in the loss of a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. Reservoirs are sources of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, and their surface areas have increased to the point where they should be included in global inventories of anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases. |
