The decision, Firefighters Local Union No. 1784 v. Stotts, probably received more press, interpretation, and scrutiny than any other recent case in the civil rights or employment law areas. Stotts held that a bona fide seniority system takes precedence over an affirmative action plan even when implementation of the seniority system ad- versely impacts minorities. |
