Moving Violations: Dance in the London Music Hall, 1890-1910

Theatrical dancing underwent a dramatic change in cultural status in the early 20th century. The conditions governing theatrical dancing just prior to this change are examined and the aspects of dance performance usually ignored by traditional dance histories are recovered.
