Population differences in self-fertility in the "self-compatible" milkweed Asclepias exaltata (Asclepiadaceae)

Individual plants of Asclepial exaltata (Asclepiadaceae) typically express an unusual self-incompatibility system under single-gene control. Hand-pollinations performed in six natural populations detected occasional self-fertile plants.
