Music in Early Virginia

Virginia's priority as well as its special contributions to the history of American music have been neglected for many reasons. Cultural and sectional chauvinism, the burning of the capital city and subsequent loss of irreplaceable records, the defeat of that commonwealth as a state in rebellion, have all conspired to deny the existence of a usuable history of musical activity.
