The Emergence of the Jazz Concert, 1935-1945

The decade from 1935 to 1945, roughly the onset of the swing era to the end of WWII, may be seen as the period in which the jazz concert as institution took root in US cultural life. The emergence of jazz as a viable institution is discussed.
