Zusammenfassung:Despite the fact that Scott's army never numbered much above thirteen thousand men and that the Democratic administration kept up what the general characterized as "a fire upon my rear" due to his Whig political affiliation and known presidential ambitions, Scott achieved notable victories at Veracruz, Cerro Gordo, Contreras, Churabusco, and Chapultepec and played a vital role in negotiating a peace with the defeated but still proud Mexican national government (p. 12).
