Zusammenfassung:In the fourth essay McMullin presents a detailed exposition of Galileo's foray into biblical hermeneutics in the Letter to Castelli and the Letter to Grand Duchess Christina, introducing us to the source of Galileo's arguments in St Augustine's De Genesi ad litteram and showing how Augustine's arguments were lifted wholesale by Galileo, probably with the help of theologian friends. Other closely argued pieces of forensic scholarship examine the rest of the Galileo file (again rejecting arguments of forgery) and the recently discovered inquisition notes on Galileo's atomism.
