Zusammenfassung:The experience gained in 1200 open heart operations in one centre in the ten years 1958-67 is summarised. For each lesion, the conditions under which surgery is recommended are stressed. The most common lesions treated were septal defects, tetralogy of Fallot and aortic-valve disease. Closed heart surgery in 717 cases is also briefly reviewed.
