TONGUE IN CHECK: Paralleling the Taliban with the Amish

Guided by the principles of a moral philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin, Downing discusses the similarities between Taliban and Amish in order to grapple the ethics of otherness. Both rooted in historical movements that dramatically defied the political and religious status quo, the most obvious and dramatic similarity is their common repudiation of modernity on materialism and the fact that they are embedded in faith traditions whose members have been killed by Christians.
