Zusammenfassung:Water supply system is a complex and dynamic structure, which should be characterized by high reliability of all components. Proper operation of the system allows for minimization of water losses that are observed in all water systems. Although it is impossible to entirely eliminate water losses, sustainable management of the network allows for substantial limitation. The aim of this papier was to perform a comparative analysis of the study and failure rate of two supply zones within the system of water distribution that supplies water to the city of Częstochowa, Poland, and other localities near the city. The analysis was performed based on the data from 2006-2016. The characteristics of the water supply zones were determined (for example: type area, system structure, age and material and diameters of pipes). The indices recommended by the International Water Association were used. They allow for determination of the condition of various water distribution systems. Changes in water demand and water losses were also analysed for both zones. The analysis allowed for the assessment of the condition of the water supply system in terms of operating conditions, water losses and failure rates. A substantial improvement in reliability was observed in 2006-2010, caused by the actions taken in order to limit failure rate by the system diagnostics department. However, intensification of the activities aimed at active detection of leakages are needed in one of the zone.
