Zusammenfassung:Solid state method has been used as an efficient method to synthesize blue pigment CoAl2O4 at a temperature of 800°C. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformer infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and luminescent spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction pattern confirmed the formation of single phase CoAl2O4. Optical properties of CoAl2O4 ceramic shows an energy band gap in the range of 3.10eV. The emission spectra of spinel CoAl2O4 in the visible region confirmed the presence of tetrahedral coordinated Co2+ ions.
