Zusammenfassung:A kinetics experiment appropriate for use in a General Chemistry course is described. The reaction studied is the iodide-catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The rate of oxygen production is measured as a function of time using a computer-interfaced pressure transducer. The data are analyzed to determine the order of the reaction with respect to iodide and hydrogen peroxide concentrations and to determine the rate constant.
