Strengthening the environmental dimension of spatial planning: Analyses, examples of implementation and policy approaches

The tasks and guiding principles of spatial planning have continuously been developed further under the perspectives of environmental policy. Comprehensive sustainable spatial planning has established itself as one of the central instruments for the implementation of space- and area-related environmental goals. Among the strategies that are relevant for the Federal Republic of Germany there are numerous models, instruments and policy approaches for spatial development and spatial planning that are related to the environment.
