Zusammenfassung:Annual influenza epidemics have resulted in an average of more than 18,000 deaths and 48,000 hospitalizations among older persons in the US. Medical research regarding the effects of vaccination programs are discussed. To reach the 2010 national objective of a 90% vaccination rate, new strategies and additional resources to implement adult vaccination activities may be needed.
