Zusammenfassung:Stage performer Karen Finley, the New York Times, the Stanford University student newspaper and Kitty Kat Lounge dancers were all recent free-speech litigants. All 4 secured a speech right before a 3-judge panel of the US court of appeals only to have that right nullified by the US Supreme Court. The lesson for First Amendment observers and for free speech advocates is: Interpret court of appeals decisions as tentative and qualified victories, and do not take them too seriously.
