Zusammenfassung: | It is contended that trust can be conceptualized as 4 distinct and ordered forms: 1. shallow dependence, 2. shallow interdependence, 3. deep dependence, and 4. deep interdependence. The form is determined by the nature of the interdependence between trusting parties. It is argued that both the risks that trusting parties assume and the mechanisms for mitigating those risks emerge as a function of the form of interdependence in the relationship. By reviewing research in which trust is a central component, the elements of this model are illustrated and its implications are examined. |
