At one point in the narrative Lot hires him to be his biographer, and he devotes his time to writing about Lot's life. As the plot progresses, Lot becomes seriously involved with anti-[Franco] dissidents abroad and expands his leadership in these activities. Several other students are part of the plot and the political activities, which provides a good picture of student life of that time.
