Technical risk analysis of multidisciplinary projects

One of the main goals of a technical risk analysis is to reduce as much as possible the risk exposure with the minimum investment in risk avoidance; this target can be therefore included among the typical activities of cost engineers. This paper covers a particular application of technical risk Analysis to a high-tech multidisciplinary project, characterized by a dependence among technical risks; a critical review of the usual methodology is carried out, and a more tailored methodology is proposed as an alternative for this type of projects. The risk analysis methodology usually applied to the feasibility analysis is the standard one relevant to industrial processes; in this case, the dependence/independence of technical risks is computed by means of the risk determinant factor, which is calculated.
