Zusammenfassung:T his article analyzes the indirect links between social policies and the political regulation of jobs, taking the case of care and domestic services jobs in France and Germany. It shows that welfare states can create resources and constraints for the political regulation of jobs: while three professional worlds were identifiable in the late 1970s in both countries, debates about care and domestic services were differently developed, leading to the choice of different instruments and to a change in the type of professional worlds associated with the jobs. Welfare states participate to the transformations of professional worlds.
