Seeds of Practice: How to Modify 5E Inquiry Lessons to Amplify Science and Engineering Practices

Forsythe highlights five strategies for modifying inquiry-based science lessons to amplify student engagement with science and engineering engineering practices. Each strategy can serve as a lens for refining the various phases of a lesson aligned to the 5E Instructional Model (Bybee 2014). It also details how she used each strategy to modify a lesson on plant adaptations and seed dispersal and includes artifacts from classroom instruction and from a professional development session on implementing these strategies.
