Analysis is based on three independent surveys of Fortune's second 500 companies conducted in 1979, 1982, and 1984. The results show trends in the management of excess cash, the relative importance of various short-term securities in money market portfolios of U. S. corporations, and the criteria used in selection of money market instruments.
