Evaluating the Faith-Based Initiative: Is Charitable Choice Good Public Policy?

This essay outlines the basic provisions of the charitable choice legislation; sketches its brief history; spells out the strongest arguments for and against it; and argues that charitable choice is more at home within a Catholic political philosophy with its principle of subsidiarity or Dutch Kuyperianism than in the Lockean tradition. It concludes with a brief summary of why charitable choice is good public policy.
