Marine n − 3 fatty acids and the risk of new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery

Dinesen and Schmidt discusses the studies on marine n-3 fatty acids and the risk of new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after cardiac surgery. It mentioned the studies that marine n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) can reduce malignant ventricular arrhythmias and reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death. But the beneficial effect on POAF after cardiac surgery presents little indication.
