Preface

[...] during the recent decades, the size of the clear-cuts has been reduced and buffer zones along wetlands, streams, and lakes have been introduced to reduce leaching and other negative effects on the aquatic ecosystems. Apart from nitrogen, phosphorus, and aluminum, special attention has been paid to the effects of clearfelling on the mobilization of organic matter and mercury, all parameters potentially affected by forest operations.
