Tatham Mound and the Bioarchaeology of European Contact

Early reports of the excavations at Tatham Mound suggested that numerous Native Americans were buried at the same time in the upper stratum of the mound following a Europeanintroduced epidemic, and that some individuals exhibited sword cuts 0effery Mitchem's 1989 chapter in Fz'rsf Encounters: [...] Hutchinson's analysis overturns the preliminary statements about Tatham representing an epidemic population. Hutchinson has produced a holistic volume which combines archaeology and physical anthropology to provide an exceptional view of native mortuary practices, health, and lifestyle of both pre- and postcontact populations.
