Zusammenfassung: | In an increasingly global society, teachers and future professionals have an obligation to understand the increased heterogeneity of students and youth as such diversity presents teachers with both challenges and opportunities. Accordingly, teacher educators must provide teacher candidates and future human services professionals with experiences that prepare them for a global society and cultural diversity in the classroom. Providing opportunities for students to participate in short-term study-abroad experiences is one way to develop global thinking and a deeper awareness of cultural diversity. Such trips can strengthen students' knowledge and dispositions and enhance their sense of globalization and cultural awareness in preparation for today's classroom. The article describes a short-term study-abroad experience offered by Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and discusses the benefits of the program, focusing on instructional design theory, predeparture meetings, onsite interactions, and reflective debriefing sessions. |
