Zusammenfassung:Together, they published results showing that serum cholesterol concentrations in the east of the country were much higher than in the west. An example of this background activity was Karvonen's central role in the 1972 North Karelia Project, a comprehensive community-based programme for prevention of cardiovascular disease. Blood pressure and smoking rates among men have also fallen, while mortality from coronary heart disease and stroke has declined by about 80%.
