Zusammenfassung:The following article presents the role of pragmatics in oral skills didactics in the foreign language classroom. The research conducted within foreign language methodology has been inspired by discourse analysis for some time now. Considering sentence linguistics as insufficient for describing a language in interaction, discourse as a language unit is taken as a starting point. Accordingly, every text ought to be analysed with reference to the conditions in which it was created. As a consequence, discourse is always governed by certain norms. Hence, there are various genres in discourse, namely a certain type of numerous kinds of text categorisation both in writing as well as speaking, which facilitates gist comprehension. In the article the concepts of discourse as well as discourse genres are taken into consideration. The emphasis is put on the specificity of spoken discourse genres and their typology. Furthermore, the article presents the definition of discourse competence proposed by Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Eventually, the article shows the analysis of the research, which aim was to evoke oral discourse competence among students.
