Zusammenfassung:	Many of the bonfires and much of the broken glass in Seattle were due to the alleged hostility of the WTO to environmental protection. The top 4 criticisms are discussed: 1. The WTO needs to incorporate environmental considerations. 2. The WTO forged the United States to lower environment standards to comply with dispute-settlement panel rulings. 3. The WTO restricts the right of the United States to adopt a higher public health and safety standard than agreed on in international standards-setting bodies. 4. Trade causes envrionmental degradation.
