Littérature et linguistique : retour sur une pratique

What contribution can linguistics make to the study of literary texts? This paper, joint-authored by a linguist and a specialist of literature, attempts to theorise a practice. Concentrating on the linguistic (especially syntactic) elements of texts, it illustrates, with examples, an open method of analysis. The semiotic approach utilised exposes the various mechanisms which contribute to the production-reception of the significance of the text and its emotional effect and shows how it theorizes its-our reading.
