Zusammenfassung: | The five year (2014-2019) EU EcoAqua project is aimed at building a centre of excellence and a networking hub for research into sustainable aquaculture, for application in the EU's outermost regions (ORs) and in overseas countries and territories (OCTs) that comprise 34 states located across all major regions of the globe, from tropical to polar latitudes. The ORs and OCTs have a shared interest in developing their maritime areas in order to grow their economies, while having to balance the competing interests of biodiversity conservation, tourism, shipping, resource extraction, fishing and aquaculture. Some of the difficulties faced by SIDS are similar to those encountered by the ORs and OCTs, especially with regard to climate change, freshwater availability, biodiversity, competing sectors (tourism, aquaculture, conservation, etc.) and their remoteness. |
