Zusammenfassung:Dyslipidemia is a common alteration in lipid metabolism that is a main cardiovascular risk factor. There are multiple causes of dyslipidemia and environmental and genetic factors are involved. We analyze the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T gene polymorphism and its association with serum lipids in young individuals of northeast Mexico. A total of 139 voluntary participants were separated into two groups based on body mass index were evaluated. Lipid profile and genotype were determined in both groups. No statistically significant difference was found in either group and among genotypes. Its is concluded that the TT genotype of the MTHFR gene polymorphism is not associated with dyslipidemia in young individuals.
