LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I have read Professor Starr's editorial with much interest. In making his assessment of management science achievements and of the current status of the field, I believe he has given a good statement of where the field stands, when viewed from the practice standpoint. I am in full accord with Professor Starr that practice is integral to the activities of the applied management scientist. We can only wish, as Professor Starr exhorts, that such experience were more completely and comprehensively presented in our publications media. Current actions to stimulate such publication may bear fruit. I hope so.
